natural medicine.
RectoRex Balm can be
effectively used to safely and gently soothe
inflamed or raw skin around the anal
opening, without harmful side effects
RectoRex Balm supports the strength of the
skin and surrounding anal area and can
especially benefit those individuals needing
to support the external area involved in
routine waste removal and healthy
circulation, without compromising health or
serious side effects.
The formula remains true to thewhole
spectrum methodof
herbal extraction, ensuring the
bio-availability and balance of all the
active ingredients contained in the remedy.
This method of manufacture (Full
Spectrum Approach™ (FSA))
also significantly reduces the likelihood of
side effects and maintains all active
ingredients in perfect balance – exactly as
nature intended!
We might
not think of the anal area as a place where circulation is
important, but skin, veins and capillaries in the tissues
surrounding the anal opening need a healthy supply of oxygen-rich
blood as much as our other body structures do.
The skin surrounding the anus is particularly sensitive
and can
become irritated at the slightest provocation. This can then make
the simple task of sitting on a hard surface or the more difficult
task of passing hardened stool extremely uncomfortable.
Circulatory problems in the anal area, both internal and external,
are compounded by our sedentary lifestyles as well as digestive
conditions related to an unhealthy diet, lack of dietary fiber and
insufficient water on a daily basis. This can lead to straining and
pressure on the anal area when passing a stool – thus placing stress
on the blood vessels in the area.
Following a healthy diet can go a long way to
prevent constipation,
encourage soft, regular stools and to support skin and blood vessel
health in the most vulnerable places.
Exercising regularly and drinking plenty of water will help to
hydrate the skin and promote circulation, while added fiber in your
diet can help to keep you ‘regular’ and loosen stools for easy
elimination through the anal passage.
Rather than treating problems in isolation, Naturopaths prefer to
take a holistic look at the individual. Natural remedies have been
used in traditional medicine for thousands of years to promote
healthy circulation and encourage skin health. In more recent times,
research has confirmed this traditional wisdom.

What does
RectoRex Balm contain?
RectoRex Balm contains the following all natural
herbal ingredients:
·
Hypericum perforatum oil is
native to Europe, but has been
naturalized in most of the northern
hemisphere. It has been hailed for its
ability to promote the body’s nerve
response during injury and trauma. The
flowers contain many antioxidants such
as Rutin, Quercitin, and Lutein. In
recent times, this herb has been shown
to help promote skin health, helping to
address skin inflammation and irritation
and encourage soothing. (Schempp CM,
Winghofer B, Ludtke R, Simon-Haarhaus B,
Shopp E, Simon JC. “Topical application
of St John's wort (Hypericum perforatum
L) and of its metabolite hyperforin
inhibits the allostimulatory capacity of
epidermal cells”. Br J Derm.
2000;142:979-984). Further studies
indicate that St. John’s Wort has
beneficial properties with particular
regards to troubled skin. (Schempp, C.
M., Windeck, T., Hezel, S., and Simon,
J. C. “Topical treatment of atopic
dermatitis with St. John's wort cream -a
randomized, placebo controlled, double
blind half-side comparison”.
Phytomedicine. 2003; 10 Suppl 4:31-37).
·
Ranunculus ficaria (Pilewort, Lesser
Celandine) is one of the earliest of
spring flowers whose tubers give the
plant its Latin name ficaria - from the
Latin for a fig, ficus. Historically,
the tubers were likened to nodules –
hence the common name “Pilewort”.
Constituents include anemonin,
protoanemonin and tannin.
·
Symphytum officinale (Comfrey) is
a temperate plant found in western Asia,
North America, and Australia. It has
been cultivated in Japan as a green
vegetable and has been used as a herbal
medicine for more than 2,000 years!
Constituents include carbohydrates,
alkaloids, Triterpenes, allantoin and
tannins. In recent years this herb has
been studied for its ability to soothe
the skin, particularly in topical
applications. (Koll R, Klingenburg S.
“Therapeutic characteristance and
tolerance of topical comfrey
preparations. Results of an
observational study of patients” [in
German]. Fortschr Med Orig.
2002;120:1-9). (Peterson G, Lorkowski G,
Kasper F, et al. “Anti-inflammatory
activity of a pyrrolizidine
alkaloid-free extract of roots of
Symphytum officinale in humans”. Planta
Med . 1993;59:A703). Furthermore, this
herb has been shown to be gentle and
effective on even the most delicate of
skins – such as infants and babies. (Ziolkowski
Z, Orszulak J, Wojtanowska H. “Aqueous
extract of Symphytum officinale in the
treatment of some skin diseases in
infants”. Pediatr Pol. 1957
Dec;32(12):1353-60. Polish. PMID:
13527040 – PubMed)
·
Matricaria chamomilla (Chamomile)
is best known as an ingredient in herbal
tea preparations advertised for its mild
calmative effects. Constituents include
volatile oils and Flavonoids and
recently studies have investigated
Chamomile for its ability to promote
recovery of wounds and encourage
healing. (Glowania HJ et al, “Effect of
chamomile on wound healing - a clinical
double-blind study.” Z Hautkr
1987;62(17):1262, 1267-71). In recent
studies chamomile has been shown to have
great potential to help soothe skin – in
one study chamomile cream shown to be as
effective as hydrocortisone 0.25% cream
in the treatment of atopic eczema. (Ross
SM . “An integrative approach to eczema
(atopic dermatitis)”. Holist Nurs Pract.
2003;17:56-62).
·
Hamamelis virginianum (Witch
hazel) is an herb that has been used
historically by Native North Americans
for centuries. Constituents include:
Tannin, saponins, choline, resins and
flavonoids. These constituents
contribute to the strong astringent
effect of witch hazel with
pharmacological studies suggesting that
witch hazel promotes vein strength and
has an anti-inflammatory agent. (Bernard
P, Balansard P, Balansard G, Bovis A.
“Venotonic pharmacodynamic value of
galenic preparations with a base of
hamamelis leaves”. J Pharm Belg
1972;27:505–12). Studies have also shown
Witch hazel to be especially soothing on
the skin. (Korting HC, Schafer-Korting
M, Hart H, et al. “Anti-inflammatory
activity of Hamamelis distillate applied
topically to the skin”. Eur J Clin
Pharmacol 1993;44:315–8).
·
Aesculus (Horse chestnut) is
actually a seed from a tree. The major
active constituents of horse chestnuts
are saponins, flavonoids, sterols and
lipids. In Germany, more prescriptions
are written for the oral, standardized
horsechestnut extract as a treatment to
promote vein health and integrity than
for any other drug or supplement. (Bielanski
TE, Piotrowski ZH. “Horse-chestnut seed
extract for chronic venous
insufficiency”. Schulz V, et al.
Rational Phytotherapy. Berlin: Springer-Verlag,
1998:129-38.) (Chandler RF. “Horse
chestnut”. Canadian Pharm J July/Aug
1993:297-300). (Dinsdale M. “Horse
chestnut”. Better Nutrition Feb.
2000;62(2):32).(J Fam Pract. 1999
Mar;48(3):171-2. Diehm C, Vollbrecht D,
Amendt K, et al. “Medical edema
protection--clinical benefit in patients
with chronic deep vein incompetence. A
placebo controlled double blind study”.
Vasa 1992;21(2):188-192). (Siebert U,
Brach M, Sroczynski G, et al. “Efficacy,
routine effectiveness, and safety of
horsechestnut seed extract in the
treatment of chronic venous
insufficiency”. A meta-analysis of
randomized controlled trials and large
observational studies. Int Angiol.
2002;21(4):305-315). This herb has been
shown to be of great benefit in
promoting all round health of the
cardiovascular system as well as
supporting vein and capillary strength
(Guillaume M, Padioleau F. “Venotonic
effect, vascular protection,
anti-inflammatory and free radical
scavenging properties of horse chestnut
extract”. Arzneim-Forsch Drug Res
1994;44:25-35).
