Hemorrhoids are itchy and painful, swollen veins in the
lining of the anal tissue. These swollen veins are of the size of a
pea corn or even bigger. They are commonly known as piles.
Hemorrhoids are either inside or outside the anus. So long as they
do not get chaffed or infected they do not cause pain. But they might also bleed and sometimes
protrude outside the anus (internal hemorrhoids), a condition known as prolapsed
hemorrhoids, and usually cause severe pain while passing stools.
This occurs as they strangulate the opening and have to be pushed
back inside.
Basically, hemorrhoids are nothing but varicose veins of the anus,
i.e. the blood that is supposed to move up through the veins to the
heart has failed in its upward movement or pull against gravity. As
a result, these veins bulge and the blood flow is blocked. Now, as
you strain to move your bowels, these veins swell even more due to
the pressure exerted.
It is estimated that nearly half the population above 40 years has
this problem to some degree or other.
External hemorrhoids can be detected quite easily by your doctor but
in case of bleeding due to suspected internal piles, he may have to
may perform a procedure called sigmoidoscopy, or colonoscopy, in
which a small instrument is inserted into the rectum in order to
view the inside of your colon. Of course, this endoscopic exam will
also let him know of another cause, if any, of your bleeding and
pain.
Holistic
and natural hemorrhoids treatments are quite effective in easing
discomfort. Treatment of hemorrhoids includes herbal and homeopathic
remedies which contain natural ingredients and are gentle to use
without the risk of dependence.
Herbs such as Aloe ferox act as a natural stool softener and are a
gentle remedy for constipation, which is what causes hemorrhoids
quite often. Aloe is also widely recommended for inflammatory
digestive disorders. Taraxacum officinale (Dandelion) contains
bitter principles which have a beneficial effect on the liver and
digestive system. In addition, Passiflora incarnata
(Passionflower) is one of
nature's most well-regarded carminitives, and helps to provide
hemorrhoids relief and ease muscle tension in the bowel.
There are also many herbs well known for their beneficial effect on
circulation, including
Ruscus aculeatus
(Butcher’s broom), Ginkgo biloba, Cratageous oxycanthus
(Hawthorn),
Aesculus (6C) (Horse chestnut)andCentella
asiatica Gotu cola, while herbal creams can assist with the itching,
inflammation, and hemorrhoids relief. Always remember to obtain your
natural medicines from a reputable company to ensure maximum safety
and efficacy.
Together, these herbs in a
tincture formula along with herbs such as
Ranunculus
ficaria (Pilewort, Lesser Celandine), Hypericum perforatum oil, Comfrey,
Chamomile, & Witch hazel in a balm or cream base are capable of:
Supporting health of the
surrounding tissue of the anal opening
Encouraging routine
circulation in the anal area while sitting
Supporting vein and
capillary health of the anal passage
Promoting the body’s
ability to resist swelling of veins in the anal area (both internally and
externally)
Supporting healthy
peristaltic movement through the digestive tract
Maintaining normal bowel
movements and bowel regularity
Supporting the body’s
process of regular toxin and waste removal
Addressing non-recurrent
and non-persistent constipation
Lots of fluid, specifically water, along with a fiber
rich diet is the key to subside the effects of
hemorrhoids as well as prevent it from occurring.
·
Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and brown rice provide
with both, soluble as well as insoluble fiber. Both are
important for easy bowel movements.
·
Certain flavonoids, antioxidants, found in dark berries
help in regaining and maintaining vascular integrity.
·
Radish - Eating raw radish stops hemorrhoidal
bleeding. Take a cup of radish juice, mix a teaspoon of
clarified butter in it, stir well and drink it twice
daily in the morning and evening. It is quite beneficial
in both, bleeding as well as non-bleeding hemorrhoids.
·
Buttermilk - Taking butter mixed with ground
caraway seeds and salt is also very useful in
hemorrhoids. Rock salt is considered more effective than
common salt. This should be taken at the end of the
meal. In fact, t is ascertained, that piles treated with
buttermilk do not even reappear. In case of bleeding
piles, mix a teaspoon of grounded and roasted cumin
seeds instead of caraway seeds. Take this mixture of
rock salt, cumin seeds in a glass of buttermilk at least
four times in a day to see fantastic results.
·
Cut down on salt intake as it disturbs the circulatory
system.
·
Spicy food like curries, refined food and alcohol should
be avoided.
Anyone who does a lot of sitting needs to do some
standing as well. If you are tied to your desk most of
the time, take at least a 5-minute walk every hour
or so. This will ease the rectal pressure that leads to
hemorrhoids.
·
Never carry very heavy weights and look for
volunteers when such work needs to be done.
·
Use a doughnut-shaped cushion if you have a sitting job.
·
Wear cotton clothes and avoid using scented (perfumed)
toilet tissue papers.
·
Avoid prolonged sitting in the toilet and also don’t
scratch the affected area at all. This will aggravate
the problem. Also, reply to nature's call at the
earliest.
·
A warm water dip of your bottom in a tub will help you a
lot in relieving the pain and increasing the blood flow
to the affected area.
