Natural herbal & homeopathic products for prostatitis (Acute bacterial, Chronic bacterial, Chronic nonbacterial, Prostadynia)

About prostate organ

The prostate is part of a man’s sex organs. It’s about the size of a walnut and surrounds the tube called the urethra, located just below the bladder, where urine leaves the bladder.

The urethra has two jobs: to carry urine from the bladder when you urinate and to carry semen during a sexual climax, or ejaculation. Semen is a combination of sperm plus fluid that the prostate adds.

The male urinary tract

Your prostate grows larger as you get older. If your prostate gets too large, it can cause health issues. Most prostate problems are not cancerous, i.e., having a problem with your prostate does not raise your chance of getting prostate cancer. You may know when something is wrong with your prostate. See your doctor right away if something doesn’t seem right to you. Sometimes a doctor may find a problem that you don’t know about during a routine checkup or by doing a rectal exam. You may also need to have special x-rays or scans to check your prostate and the area around it.

Common prostate problems

It’s true that prostate problems are very common after age 50. The good news is there are things you can do. For men over 50, the most common prostate problem is prostate enlargement. This condition is also called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Older men are at risk for prostate cancer as well, but this disease is much less common than BPH. For men under 50, the most common prostate problem is prostatitis.

About prostatitis (Acute bacterial, Chronic bacterial, Chronic nonbacterial, Prostadynia)

Prostatitis means the prostate might be inflamed or irritated. If you have prostatitis, you may have a burning feeling when you urinate, or you may have to urinate more often. Or you may have a fever or just feel tired. Prostatitis is a term that encompasses four disorders of the prostate: acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis, chronic nonbacterial prostatitis, and prostadynia.

Acute bacterial prostatitis (ABP)

Inflammation in any part of the body is usually a sign that the body is fighting germs or repairing an injury. Some kinds of prostatitis are caused by bacteria, tiny organisms that can cause infection or disease. This kind of prostatitis is called acute prostatitis. It usually starts all of a sudden. It can cause fever, chills, or pain in the lower back and between the legs. It might hurt when you urinate.

Acute bacterial prostatitis usually results from a urinary tract infection (usually from E. coli bacteria) that has spread to the prostate. See your doctor right away. Your doctor can look through a microscope and find bacteria in a sample of your urine. Acute prostatitis may also result from exposure to cold and chill, and from infectious diseases. Chronic prostatis is an after-effect of the acute condition.

Natural alternative medicines, remedies & cures for prostatitis (Acute bacterial, Chronic bacterial, Chronic nonbacterial, Prostadynia). ABP may also be caused by continual irritation of the gland due to excessive sexual excitement. Another important cause of ABP is constipation, when the faeces become hardened and the rectum or lower bowel is overloaded, causing undue pressure on the prostate gland.

Chronic bacterial prostatitis

Chronic bacterial prostatitis is an infection that comes back again and again. This problem can be hard to treat. Chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP) is usually the result of a partial blockage of the male urinary tract, such as occurs with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Such blockages promote the harboring of bacteria from a previous infection and reduce circulation, thereby preventing both the body’s natural immune mechanisms and medication from getting to the site.

Symptoms include frequent and urgent urination, pain when urinating, blood in semen or urine, frequent bladder infections, pain in the lower back and slight fever

Chronic nonbacterial prostatitis (NBP)

Most of the time, doctors don’t find any bacteria in men with prostatitis. If you have urinary problems, the doctor will look for other possible causes, such as a kidney stone or cancer. If no other causes are found, the doctor may decide you have a condition called nonbacterial prostatitis. NBP is usually caused by infectious agents such as fungi, mycoplasma, or viruses.

Chronic nonbacterial prostatitis is a common prostate problem and occurs mostly in young to middle-aged men. It causes pain in the lower back, between the legs, or at the tip of the penis. Men with this problem often have painful ejaculation and need to urinate frequently. As a general rule, the symptoms are similar to chronic bacterial prostatitis, but no fever. Sometimes antibiotics are helpful. The condition is very hard to treat and may require more than one treatment.

Prostadynia (PD)

Prostadynia, also called chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS), is a noninfectious form of prostatitis. Although the cause is unknown, it has been proposed that PD may be a neuromuscular condition, causing pain of the pelvic floor muscles. You may have to work with your doctor to find a treatment that’s right for you. Changing your diet or taking warm baths may help. Your doctor may give you a medicine called an alpha-blocker to relax the muscle tissue in the prostate. No single solution works for everyone with this condition.

Work with your doctor to find a treatment that’s right for you. Remember, left untreated, the infection can spread to the testicles and epididymis (tubules in back of the testis) and, in severe cases, destroy the prostate gland. Recent bladder infection or urinary tract infection, recent catheterization and diabetes increase the chances of prostatitis a lot.

Herbal & homeopathic remedies useful in prostatitis (Acute bacterial, Chronic bacterial, Chronic nonbacterial, Prostadynia)

Conventional treatment for prostate problems ranges from antibiotics for prostatitis, to various pharmaceutical approaches to treat BPH and relax the bladder to promote easier urination.

However, there are many clinically proven natural herbal and homeopathic remedies that have been shown to promote prostate health in a natural manner without harmful side effects. Certain herbs such as Epilobium parviflorum have been shown to have an inflammation-inhibiting and healing effect on acute and chronic inflammation of the prostate and BPH.

Further more, Hypoxis rooperi and Sabal serrulata are also well known for improving prostate health, supporting the immune system and guarding against urinary tract infection.

In Europe and many other countries, natural remedies are widely prescribed even by conventional doctors to treat prostate conditions as well as promote prostate health in a preventative manner. Remember, always source your natural remedies from a reputable company in order to ensure maximum safety, therapeutic dosage and best efficacy.

  • Sabal serrulata (6C) is suited to the individual who experiences a frequent urge to urinate at night, experiences difficulty passing urine, and senses a feeling of coldness in the sexual organs. It is sometimes also used in lower potencies for urinary incontinence in older men. This remedy is made from saw palmetto that is also used as an herbal extract for the prostate.

Herbal supplements & cures for prostatitis (Acute bacterial, Chronic bacterial, Chronic nonbacterial, Prostadynia). Recent clinical studies have suggested that Saw Palmetto or Sabal Serrulata can be as effective as finasteride in relieving certain symptoms of BPH and in reducing the DHT levels thought to be associated with BPH occurrence.

  • Conium maculatum (6C) is formulated safely and has a full cycle of complementary and contrasting characteristics that embrace the physical, mental, and emotional domains. This remedy is suited to men who experience ‘stopping and starting’ of urine flow, defined by straining to expel the urine and stopping after becoming tired in the process. Without any pressure, urination starts again. Irregular muscular actions while passing urine may also be experienced.

  • Epilobium Parviflorum - Clinical studies have revealed that Epilobium Parviflorum has an inflammation-inhibiting and healing effect on acute and chronic inflammation of the prostate and can help to reduce the gland to its normal size. It is recommended that all men over the age of 50 take this herb regularly as a preventative and to maintain prostate and bladder health.

  • Hypoxis Rooperi (extract of African Potato) - Traditionally used to strengthen the immune system, treat testicular tumors, prostate hypertrophy and urinary infections. The activity of Hypoxis Rooperi against BPH is ascribed to phytosterol glycosides, mainly B-sytosterol.

  • Apis mellifica (30C) was proved by Dr. Frederick Humphries in the 19th century. This ingredient is commonly used for any burning, stinging pain or when urination is frequent, painful, or scanty.

  • Cantharis (30C) can be traced back more than 2000 years, and was used by Hippocrates to treat a variety of ailments. General symptoms are typically burning during urination, and a constant, persistent thirst accompanied with an aversion to drinking due to painful, burning sensations during urine release.

Dietary recommendations in prostatitis (Acute bacterial, Chronic bacterial, Chronic nonbacterial, Prostadynia)

  • Vitamin C inhibits the growth of E.coli, the most common cause of ABP and CBP. Although vitamin C has not been studied in bacterial prostatitis, the association of this condition with urinary tract infections leads many nutritionally oriented doctors to recommend its use, in the form of ascorbic acid, for bacterial prostatitis due to E. coli infection. Vitamin C is richly found in citrus fruits, blackcurrant, vegetables (broccoli, potatoes), red capsicums and chillies, strawberry, kiwifruit and rockmelon.

  • Omega-3 fatty acids (1,000 - 1,500 mg one to two times a day), over time, may help reduce inflammation. Omega -3s are richly found in seafood; fish such as salmon (especially Atlantic and red, canned in brine), sardines (canned in water), mackerel (canned in brine), mullet, tuna etc., and pecans and trevally. Walnuts are also an extremely good source of omega-3.

  • Vitamin E has proved to be an important factor for prostate health. The patient should therefore use vitamin E-rich foods liberally. Vitamin E-rich foods are wholegrain products, green leafy vegetables, eggs, milk, and all raw or sprouted seeds.

  • Heavy starches, sweet stimulants, and highly seasoned foods are entirely forbidden, as they are said to cause direct irritation to the prostate gland and bladder.

  • Your diet should also exclude spices, condiments, salt in excess, sauces, and meats, cheese, asparagus, watercress, greasy or fried foods, alcohol, tobacco, and too much of tea or coffee.

  • You should avoid hurried meals and must chew your food thoroughly and slowly. Water should be taken between meals and not at meal times.

Homeopathic medicines & cures for prostatitis (Acute bacterial, Chronic bacterial, Chronic nonbacterial, Prostadynia). Pumpkin seeds have been used historically for a healthy prostate. Pumpkin seeds are an effective home remedy for prostate problems and many patients have been helped by their use. These seeds are rich in unsaturated fatty acids which are essential to the health of the prostate. Persons beyond the age of fifty, who have any signs of prostate trouble; or those who suffer from urinary disorders of some kind, namely, burning or difficulty in passing urine freely, should take sixty to ninety grams of pumpkin seeds per day. The seeds may be taken in the form of powder sprinkled over cooked vegetables or mixed with wheat flour to make chapatis. They can also be taken in the form of a paste made with honey, or as a drink mixed with diluted milk and sugar to taste.

Dos and don'ts (precautions) in prostatitis (Acute bacterial, Chronic bacterial, Chronic nonbacterial, Prostadynia)

  • Acupuncture - May improve urinary flow and decrease swelling and inflammation.

  • Massage may help reduce symptoms. Focus may be on the lower abdominal area, lower back, and around the sacrum. Prostatic massage is thought to promote circulation and drainage of infected areas.

  • Men should have a yearly prostate examination after age 40, even if they have no symptoms of prostate problems. In recurring cases, you may need ongoing treatment with periodic checkups.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, as in certain occupations, also increase the pressure on the pelvic region, resulting in congestion of the tissues in and around the prostate gland.

  • Urination and ejaculation may provide defense against prostatic infection by flushing the urethra. The prostate also secretes an antibacterial substance known as “prostatic antibacterial factor” into the seminal fluid (semen), which helps to fight infection. Hence, you know what you have to do.

  • Some researchers have reported that certain cases of chronic prostatitis are helped by biofeedback (using simple electronic devices to measure and report information about a person’s biological system) and other treatments aimed at reducing chronic pain.

  • Sitz baths are reported to provide temporary relief of symptoms in men with chronic prostatitis although this therapy is not recommended in ABP, as it may worsen the infection. A sitz bath is the immersion of the pelvic region (up to the navel) in water.

  • A wet girdle pack is another valuable remedy in the realm of hydrotherapy, which provides great relief in prostatitis and prostate enlargement. For this mode of treatment, thin cotton underwear and thick or woollen underwear are required. The thin underwear should be wrung in cold water and worn by the patient. The thick dry underwear should be worn above the wet underwear. This treatment should be continued for ninety minute regularly every night. If the patient feels chilly, he should be covered with a blanket.
