“The

would recommend this (I have been recommending on various forums)
product to anyone with a child who suffers from recurrent [tonsil
issues]. This was my third bottle to order from you, I have never
looked back since I started using the tablets, the tablets and a
gargle of salty warm water ….”

Tonsils are
four little lymph glands situated in your throat. The
paired faucial tonsils are visible at the entrance to your throat.
They are the ones so often removed (nowadays the cases are less) by
performing tonsillectomy. The other pair, linguals, are situated
farther down and are normally the size of green peas but can enlarge
a lot.
Tonsillectomy is actually one of the most performed surgeries (next
only to circumcision!). The number was far greater earlier when the
doctors thought that tonsils were 'useless evolutionary leftovers' and
harmless to remove. But, it was seen that the chances of getting
upper respiratory infections increased manifold once these were
removed. Now, it is well established that a simple enlargement of
them or an infection in them, twice or thrice a year, doesn’t call
for their removal.
Actually, tonsils do a very important job of
trapping bacteria in
their crypts. Then the phagocytes from the blood consume these
bacteria, hence the infection is trapped before it reaches the
bronchial tubes and lungs. When these warriors are overwhelmed by
the striking bacteria, they get infected, inflamed and enlarged and
tonsillitis occurs. You then have to nurse them back to health
instead of ignoring, and worse still, think about getting them
removed. Think about getting rid of them only when they are getting
chronically infected, that too, after you have tried all possible
treatments including herbal preparations.
Some children have problem
treating enlarged tonsils which ultimately shrink as
they grow older, making their removal unnecessary. Therefore, if a
child is eased through the early susceptible years, then the chances
are that the problems caused by his tonsils will disappear on their
own. Remember, although a routine procedure, a tonsillectomy,
like all major surgeries, entails risks and should be performed only
if severe and recurrent tonsillitis makes it necessary.
There
are effective natural remedies that can help to support and
maintain throat and tonsil health, boost immune functioning and
fight tonsil infection when it occurs. Keep reading to learn

For
tonsillitis that is caused by a bacterial infection, the
conventional medical treatment involves the use of antibiotics. For
antibiotics to be effective, it is important to complete the entire
treatment to avoid the risk of recurring infection. The normal
course of antibiotics is 5 – 10 days. A tonsillectomy (surgical
removal of tonsils) may be required in very severe cases of
tonsillitis, if your child has more than seven episodes of
tonsillitis in one year, if the swollen tonsils affect breathing or
swallowing or if an abscess develops, then a tonsillectomy may be
recommended.
However, bear in mind that the tonsils serve an important purpose in
the body as the first ‘soldiers’ of defense against infection.
Removal of the tonsils should be a last resort as this will leave
the throat open to further infection. It is now recognized that
routine tonsillectomy is not always the best choice for children and
is a now seen as a controversial procedure unless used as a very
last resort.
There
are effective natural remedies that can help to support and
maintain throat and tonsil health, boost immune functioning and
fight tonsil infection when it occurs. Herbal and homeopathic
remedies contain carefully selected ingredients that are gentle on
the body’s system, without harsh risks of unwanted side effects
or addiction.
Use Gallium aperine, also known as Cleavers, as an excellent
cleansing tonic with a particularly beneficial effect on all the
lymph glands, including the tonsils. Salvia officinalis benefits all
conditions of the mouth and throat and has well-known herbal
astringent, antibiotic and antiseptic properties. There are a number
of homeopathic remedies, such as Belladonna and Merc. sol
recommended in the treatment of acute tonsillitis and can help to
clear the infection as well as prevent unnecessary tonsillectomies.

Together, these herbal + homeopathic remedies can:
- Promote tonsil health
- Soothe the throat and tonsils
- Promote health in the lymphatic system
- Soothe a common irritable, tickly throat
- Help to keep healthy chests and airways open and clear
- Promote a healthy immune system
- Assist the body in recuperation and convalescence
- Support the natural ability of the immune system to
maintain energy levels and fight fatigue
- Promote healthy circulation and oxygen-rich blood flow to
all systems in the body
- Promote routine cellular health and support cellular
defense against pathogens (germs)

An
unhealthy diet is considered as a very important factor leading to
tonsillitis. A diet rich in refined carbohydrates like cakes,
biscuits and sugar decreases the efficiency of your body’s defense
system whereas a diet rich in important micronutrients increase the
immunity level, thereby increasing the body’s resistance to
infection.
Some of the key components of a balanced diet are:
|
· |
Vitamin C - Vitamin C is often touted as a help to
prevent colds although no research has proved it till
now. Still, it is widely believed by medical
practitioners that a diet rich in vitamin C hugely
decreases your susceptibility to infections. It also
stimulates the production of saliva, soothing irritated
membranes. Diet containing fresh fruits and vegetables
should provide you with enough vitamin C in a day
although emphasis must be given on citrus fruits (fresh
fruits in totality and not their juice only) like grapes
and blackberries, as they also contain bioflavonoids,
which together with vitamin C keep the blood capillaries
healthy and also possess anti-inflammatory property. |
|
· |
Vitamin A – According to some researches, a diet rich in
vitamin A is considered best against cold and
tonsillitis.
Vitamin A is supposed to be the 'membrane conditioner'
as it helps build healthy mucous membranes in the nose
and throat. Usual sources of vitamin A (in the form of
beta carotene) are whole milk, curds, egg yolk, pumpkin,
carrots, leafy vegetables, tomatoes, mangoes, and
papaya. |
|
· |
B vitamins – B vitamins help to maintain a healthy
immune system and are easily found in whole grains,
pulses and nuts. |
|
· |
Vitamin E – This vitamin also helps in boosting the
immune system. Its sources include avocados, nuts, seed
oils and sunflower seeds. |
|
· |
Vitamin D – It also helps in giving a tremendous fillip
to your body’s defense system. The sources include dairy
products, fish such as salmon, sardines, herring |
|
· |
Dietary Iron – It is very essential for the formation of
antibodies. Rich sources include green leafy vegetables,
oily fish, offal (heart, liver), red meat, eggs. |
|
· |
Zinc - Zinc enhances immune system activity and
protects
against a range of infections including colds and upper
respiratory infections. Shellfish and nuts are rich
sources of zinc. |
|
· |
Lactobacillus species (probiotics, or "friendly"
bacteria) are a useful species in treating upper respiratory
infections such as tonsillitis and for reducing the
chances of developing allergies. Yoghurt contains
lactobacillus, which is a probiotic, which means that it
actually helps fight, rather than cause, infection.
Certain probiotic yoghurts, i.e. the ones which have
even more of such beneficial bacteria lactobacillus are
available in the market which are supposed to enhance
the immunity and prevent and fight against common cold.
They are also of immense help for anybody who is taking
antibiotics as they replace the intestinal bacteria-an
important source of B vitamins-that are destroyed by the
medication. |
|
· |
You must avoid spices and condiments as they are a major
irritation to the throat. Sour substances like curds,
buttermilk, and fried foods should also to be avoided. |

Some
most effective home made remedies for tonsillitis are:
|
· |
Apply liquorice paste like a paint around the throat for
relief. |
|
· |
Crush 2-3 cloves of garlic and cloves and add to a
cupful of honey. Let the mixture remain for a day or
two, afterwards take a teaspoon thrice a day. |
|
· |
Take half a fresh lemon and squeeze into a glass of warm
water, mix with two teaspoons of honey and a pinch of
salt, sip slowly, this will help soothe soreness in the
throat. |
|
· |
Milk has been found valuable in this disease (of course,
make sure that your tonsillitis is not due to allergy
from dairy products at the first place). A glass of pure
boiled milk, mixed with a pinch of turmeric powder
and pepper powder, should be taken every night for
three nights. It will provide great relief from
tonsillitis. |
|
· |
The juices of carrot, beet and cucumber taken
individually or in combination are considered invaluable
for the treatment of tonsillitis. Proportions found
helpful are carrot 150ml, beet 50ml and cucumber 50ml to
prepare 250ml of combined juice. |
|
· |
The throat may be gargled with hot water mixed with a
little salt and lime juice several times daily. This
will help draw out fluids from the inflamed throat, thus
providing comfort. Remember, do not make gargling sounds
as this may aggravate the soreness. |
|
· |
Sage tea – Pour a dessertspoon of chopped fresh leaves
or one teaspoon of dried leaves of sage into a cup of
boiling water. In this, red sage is preferred over
garden sage, but both will work. Gargle with the
solution once it becomes tolerably hot. Remember, do not
make gargling sounds as this may aggravate the soreness. |
|
· |
Take a teaspoon of honey and fresh juice of half a lemon
and mix in a glass of hot water. Sip it slowly as it
soothes your tonsils. |

|
· |
Use a vaporizer or humidifier – Humidifiers increase and
maintain the water vapor in the room and thus help
prevent drying in the nasal passages and throat of the
occupants, but humidifiers may cause humidifier fever,
an ailment caused by bacteria that breed in the
improperly cleaned reservoirs of such devices.
Vaporizers are safer as infection-causing microorganisms
can’t tolerate the steam heat it generates. |

|
· |
Steam inhalation – Inhale steam to relieve a stuffed
nose. Fill a bowl with hot water, put a towel over your
head and tilt your head over the bowl in such a way that
the steam is trapped. Inhale deeply for 10 minutes. You
should add some eucalyptus oil (3 drops of essential
oil) for making the steam an even better decongestant.
Inhale with an open mouth also to give relief to your
inflamed tonsils. |
|
· |
Don’t smoke – Smoking increases the irritation,
inflammation and infection build up in the already
infected tonsils. |
|
· |
Try to generally control the quality of air around you.
Avoid smoky or dusty atmosphere. |
|
· |
Cough and sneeze into a tissue to prevent germs from
spreading. Do not share personal items such as
toothbrushes, drinking glasses or eating utensils with
others. Avoid close contact with those who are infected
with tonsillitis. |
Practicing good dietary regime & taking some precautions as
discussed above, along with the mentioned herbal &
homeopathic remedies can definitely provide you or your
child with the long awaited & deserved relief from
tonsillitis, sore throat & other tonsil issues.

“I
developed an infection in my tonsils months ago. I had white
spots in the back of my throat and at times, black spots of
bacteria. I tried everything natural I could think of to
stop it, but nothing was potent enough. I went to the doctor
… didn't help much and the antibiotics just made me feel
sick. I could hardly swallow because of the pain. As a last
resort, I looked up natural remedies and came across this
website. I found Throat and Tonsil Dr. As soon as I
dissolved two under my tongue, the pain immediately started
to go away. In two days, the pain was completely gone, and
not long after, so was the infection! I kid you not, I stand
by the potency of this product. I was simply blown away. I
recommend Throat and Tonsil Dr. to anyone with tonsil
and throat infections. My wife takes it for ear infections
as well. I hope this testimonial saves some parents from
having to remove their child’s tonsils.”
